Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • ½ cup tamarind & lemongrass sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger (fresh or paste)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp char siu seasoning
  • Sesame seeds
  • 2 Spring onion, diced
  • Chilli flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a fry pan or skillet over high heat and add coconut oil. Once hot, add the beef mince, breaking it apart and allowing it to brown. Reduce the heat to medium.
  2. Stir in the minced ginger and season with a pinch of salt. Sprinkle the char siu seasoning over the beef and continue to fry gently for another minute or two.
  3. Add the minced garlic, stir, and fry for an additional minute until fragrant. Then, pour in the tamarind & lemongrass sauce along with the honey. Toss the beef mince to ensure it's evenly coated with the sauce.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and fry for another minute or two before removing from heat. Serve and garnish with sesame seeds, chopped spring onion, and chilli flakes if desired. Drizzle with a bit of natural yogurt.
  5. Serve with brown rice and veggies, and consider adding pappadams on the side for extra crunch.

Hints & Tips

  • For an alternative flavour, try using lamb mince instead of beef. Lamb adds a unique taste that complements the tanginess of the tamarind and lemongrass.
  • Add extra veggies by grating carrot and zucchini into the cooking mince for a nutritious boost.
  • This dish pairs well with various sides such as jasmine rice, quinoa, or even noodles. Roasted vegetables like broccoli, pumpkin, or sweet potato make excellent accompaniments.
  • Consider serving with pappadams on the side. These crispy lentil-based wafers add a satisfying crunch and are perfect for scooping up every bite.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days, making it a convenient option for meal prep. Alternatively, freeze portions for future quick and easy meals.
